OHSU Doernbecher Hosts Triplets Reunion

06/08/09  Portland, Ore.

Five sets of triplets were born at OHSU during a four-month period in 2008

WHAT:          Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children's Hospital will host a reunion for five families (10 parents and 15 babies) who delivered triplets during a four-month period last year.

In previous years, OHSU delivered an average of just one set of triplets, according to OHSU Mother and Baby Unit nurse manager, Molly Blaser, R.N.

"One of the mothers called me about a month ago interested in gathering these families together to say 'thanks' to all of the staff involved in their care. It sounded like a fun opportunity for everyone. We are delighted to be able to help celebrate this milestone," said Catherine Cromett, R.N., M.S.N., perinatal care coordinator, OHSU Perinatal Center.

OHSU also hosts a monthly support group for families with multiples called "Full House Moms and Dads." For more information about the group, contact Laurie Purdue at meetings09@fullhousemoms.com or visit www.fullhousemoms.com/

WHEN:          Tuesday, June 9

WHERE:       11 a.m. to 1 p.m., OHSU Kohler Pavilion. Media interested in attending, please call Tamara Hargens-Bradley: 503 494-8231.

DETAILS:     The OHSU Perinatal Care Center is home to a highly specialized team of high-risk ob-gyns, genetic counselors, radiologists and others who provide pre-natal through delivery care to moms expecting multiples (twins, triplets or more). Once delivered, these infants and their families are cared for in the specially equipped OHSU Doernbecher Neonatal Care Center (DNCC), where a uniquely trained team of physicians and nurses and other health professionals provide a multitude of critical health care, psychosocial, educational and logistical services.
