13th Annual Women's Health Conference Turns to Integrative Medicine, Green Living

The 13th annual Women's Health Conference will take place on April 26 at the Oregon Convention Center

WHAT: The 13th Annual Women’s Health Conference, sponsored by the OHSU Center for Women’s Health, adds new focuses to its line-up of speakers and workshops this year. These focuses include workshops dedicated to how green living can benefit your health and speakers immersed in the burgeoning field of integrative medicine.    

WHEN: Saturday, April 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Online registration deadline is: Wednesday, April 23.

DETAILS: Author of The Heart Speaks, Ermina “Mimi” Guarneri, M.D., F.A.C.C., will serve as keynote speaker of the conference. Guarneri, medical director of the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, will talk about the effects of emotion and stress on heart health. Guarneri is a cardiologist dedicated to practicing integrative medicine; that is, the combined practice of traditional Western medicine and alternative treatments.
 
Our Bodies, Our Selves co-author Judy Norsigian will also present at the conference. The co-author of this seminal women’s health book will examine the ways health discoveries are reported in media outlets. Norsigian will also educate attendees on determining whether such news items are trustworthy.

Numerous other workshops include sessions on a variety of topics, including hypnosis, green living, breast cancer and the brain. Metro will share resources and tips to create greener, toxic-free homes. Fred Meyer Pharmacy & Nutrition Center will provide health screenings for a nominal fee.

The conference is open to the public, but advance registration is recommended - only a limited number of tickets will be sold the day of the conference.  All-day admission is $40 and includes classes, brunch and conference materials.
