Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon Joins Doernbecher
09/23/08 Portland, Ore.
OHSU Doernbecher’s new pediatric orthopaedist will partner with community clinicians to ensure treatment for everything from bone fractures to skeletal abnormalities
Pediatric orthopaedic surgeons are in high demand, especially at Level 1 trauma centers like Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, where these specialists are available around the clock to quickly treat broken bones and life-threatening traumatic injury.
With the recent appointment of Matthew Halsey, M.D., the number of Portland-area pediatric orthopaedic surgeons increases to four. Under Halsey’s leadership, the OHSU Doernbecher pediatric orthopaedics team will partner with other surgeons, community pediatricians and family practitioners to ensure children receive quick and easy access services.
“The key to any pediatric orthopaedic program’s success is community partnerships. Collaborating with area providers to ensure quality, accessible care will enable us to tackle the more complex, time-intensive cases without jeopardizing more routine care,” said Matthew Halsey, M.D., assistant professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation (pediatrics), OHSU School of Medicine.
Halsey comes to OHSU from Sequoia Pediatric Orthopaedics in Madera, Calif., where he cared for some 6,000 pediatric orthopaedic patients a year as an attending physician in pediatric orthopaedics. He brings expertise in pediatric skeletal injuries and disorders, particularly club foot, hip dysplasia and scoliosis.
Halsey completed his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN; his residency in orthopaedics at State University of New York at Stony Brook; and his fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics at Shriners Hospitals for Children – Portland. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and the Scoliosis Research Society.
Halsey will care for patients at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital on Marquam Hill and at OHSU Doernbecher Westside (Bethany). To learn more about OHSU Doernbecher, visit www.ohsudoernbecher.com
