Students at OHSU's OGI School of Science & Engineering Receive Prestigious Scholarships

Two graduate students at Oregon Health & Science University's OGI School of Science & Engineering, based in Hillsboro, Ore., received Dolph Dolson Achievement Awards during the 2002-2003 academic year. The Dolph Dolson Achievement Awards were established by family, friends, and colleagues of the late Dolph Dolson, an OGI School of Science & Engineering information technology staff member who died in 1998. The awards recognize outstanding students pursuing full-time master's degrees in either electrical engineering or computer science and engineering. Award recipients are:
• Daniel Shen, a master's student in electrical and computer engineering. Shen is studying integrated circuits and microelectrical mechanical systems. He received his bachelor's in mechanical engineering from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. He worked briefly as a mechanical engineer for a New Jersey manufacturing company before deciding to seek an advanced degree. He lives in Aloha, Ore.
• Kristina Hollingshead, a computer science and engineering research assistant-intern in the OGI School's Center for Spoken Language Understanding. Hollingshead is pursuing her master's with an emphasis on spoken language systems. She received her bachelor's in English and computer science at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Hollingshead lives in Hillsboro, Ore.
The OGI School of Science & Engineering (formerly the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science & Technology) became one of four specialty schools of Oregon Health & Science University in 2001. The school has more than 100 full-time and adjunct faculty, and more than 300 full-time master's and doctoral students who take accredited courses in five academic departments. There are about 175 part-time master's and doctoral students who take not-for-credit courses, and an additional 1,000 working professionals who take classes through the school's Center for Professional Development.
