Free Forum Offered on New Treatments for Bipolar Disorder

11/19/01    Portland, Ore.

The public is invited to a free forum on new treatments for bipolar disorder, one of America's most common mental illnesses, Wednesday, November 28, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center auditorium, 3710 S.W. U.S. Veterans Hospital Road. Refreshments will be served.

Peter Hauser, M.D., chief of psychiatry at the Portland VA Medical Center and professor of psychiatry at Oregon Health & Science University, School of Medicine, will discuss new approaches to treating bipolar disorder, a condition in which patients may suffer extreme mood swings between depression and an exaggerated feeling of well-being. Hauser is principal investigator for the Portland site in a new national study dedicated to improving treatment for people with bipolar disorder.

The forum is one of a series of educational meetings on bipolar disorder sponsored by the Mood Disorder Center at the Portland VA Medical Center. For more information, please call 503 220-8262, Ext. 57429.
