Saturday Academy, Portland State University and OHSU Have Formed a New Partnership
08/29/01 Portland, Ore.
Saturday Academy was formerly a department of the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology in Beaverton. On July 1, 2001, OGI merged with OHSU to become the new OGI School of Science and Engineering. As one component of that merger, Portland State and OHSU have undertaken a joint alliance with Saturday Academy. Portland State is now Saturday Academy's fiscal agent and manager of program operations. OHSU will supply facilities and related support at the former OGI campus (now called the OHSU West Campus). Saturday Academy will continue to offer its exemplary programs to pre-college students.
Both Portland State and OHSU have supported Saturday Academy extensively over its 18-year history. They have supplied classroom facilities, encouraged their staff to serve as instructors and mentors, and underwritten Saturday Academy conferences and events. Both institutions engage in research and educational endeavors highly complementary to Saturday Academy's mission of bringing more young people into the world of science. The new alliance offers unparalleled opportunities for programmatic expansion for Saturday Academy, as well as "pipeline" recruitment and outreach opportunities for Portland State and OHSU.
As has been the case since its founding in 1983, Saturday Academy will continue to be a self-sustaining organization. Its sources of operating revenue include tuition, fees, grants and contracts, and gifts from individuals, businesses and foundations. Gifts to Saturday Academy remain tax deductible.

This is an exciting time for Saturday Academy, Portland State and OHSU. We look forward to working with you as we grow to serve more young people in the years ahead.
