Three Lives Saved at OHSU on the First Day of the New Year

The transplant teams at Oregon Health Sciences University performed three live-saving transplants today, Jan. 1, 2000. The first gift of life was a heart transplanted into a teenage girl. Her transplant was completed at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The recipient of OHSU's first kidney transplant of the new year was a gentleman in his late 30s. His surgery ended around 1:30 p.m. At about the same time OHSU's liver transplant team was completing the first liver transplant of 2000. The recipient was a man in his 40s. All patients are doing well.
