OHSU Nurses Ratify OHSU Contract

11/13/99    Portland, Ore.

Oregon Health Sciences University's registered nurses ratified OHSU's contract offer today. OHSU members of the Oregon Nurses Association voted to approve the two-year contract, which expires Sept. 30, 2001.

The contract includes a 3 percent wage increase for the first year of the contract and a 2.5 percent increase in the second year, a signing bonus and a generous benefits package. The agreement maintains OHSU's competitive position in the community with a wage and benefit package at the top of the market.

"We are pleased that the contract has been ratified," said Lois Davis, vice president for public affairs and marketing. "We believe that it is both fiscally responsible and fair. It demonstrates OHSU's commitment to its nursing staff, its students, its patients and to the community, who rely on us to deliver high-quality care in a cost-efficient way."

OHSU has approximately 1,300 nurses who are represented by the Oregon Nurses Association. The university, its four research institutes, three schools, two hospitals and dozens of clinics employ 9,700 people. OHSU is Portland's largest employer.
