Lindsay Brown

DMD Class of 2010

Lindsay B.When my classmates and I graduate from the OHSU School of Dentistry program in June, we will be well-trained dental grads ready to hit the ground running. Our outstanding education will put us a cut above the rest, thanks to the support of alumni and generous people like you.

In many ways I have OHSU to thank for my future career as a dentist. Growing up I was able to see my father, an OHSU alumnus, work as a general dentist and truly enjoy what he was doing every day. My father never pressured me to go into the dental profession, but he certainly had an impact on my decision. I saw how happy he was with his career and I hope I can serve as a similar example for my children. When you enjoy what you do, it shows.

It’s interesting (and sometimes entertaining) to talk to my dad and compare our experiences at the OHSU School of Dentistry. As a student, he and his classmates had to stack their own porcelain. While I can’t imagine that, he has a hard time imagining what it must be like to spend a full year in a simulation lab, practicing on “mannequin” patients.

Some things haven’t changed a bit, though. The school still focuses on giving their students as much real-life experience as possible to help them feel autonomous and ready to practice after graduation. My dad and I both remark on the outstanding faculty members and committed staff at OHSU – we even had some of the same instructors!

I am really looking forward to my career in dentistry and I’m grateful for the knowledge and experience OHSU has given me. Please help continue this tradition of excellence in education by making a gift today.
