The Marsha Heims Teaching Scholar Award
In June 2010, our nursing community lost one of its most beloved colleagues and friends, Dr. Marsha Heims, after a courageous fight against cancer.
Dr. Heims was an innovative, passionate and extraordinary nurse educator. She was always in pursuit of the best available evidence for teaching and learning, never willing to settle for anything less than outstanding, and never shy about expressing her well-grounded point of view.
Throughout her career as a scholar and mentor to thousands of nursing students and colleagues, Dr. Heims sought to advance the practice of teaching. To honor her spirit and her standard of excellence, we're pleased to announce the creation of the Marsha Heims Teaching Scholar Award.
About the Award
The Heims Award will assist OHSU nursing faculty in their own evolution as teachers, by providing them with support for development opportunities that will help to enhance their skills and knowledge about the latest concepts and practices in education.
Open to all OHSU School of Nursing faculty on any OHSU campus, the Heims Award will represent the highest form of peer-to-peer recognition, an honor that generations from now will still ring with the joy and passion that infused every moment of Marsha Heims' career.
Our Goal: A Permanent Legacy
Our vision is to make the Marsha Heims Teaching Award an enduring testament to her service, and a perennial source of support for future generations of nurse educators. To make this project complete, we must reach the threshold of $50,000 in total gifts, which will complete a permanent endowment.
We've already raised over $10,000 toward our goal! Please join the effort by making your gift today. Thank you!
