OHSU School of Medicine

School of Medicine - white coats in Spring

OHSU is Oregon's only academic health center. The people, including the faculty members, trainees, students and staff of the OHSU School of Medicine, are the fabric of this unique institution. The school has a unique role in ensuring that Oregon has the highest quality and most geographically well-distributed health care workforce possible. The School of Medicine is committed to helping create a workforce that reflects diversity of all types —cultural, socio-economic and geographic. Oregon, like the rest of the nation, is facing a physician workforce shortage, especially in rural settings and in primary care specialties. Scientists, too, are facing a new professional paradigm, and School of Medicine data align with national data showing a majority of Ph.D. students are moving into a breadth of science-based careers ─ not just academia. The school's master's programs have grown significantly over time.

Today's health care and biomedical landscape is changing rapidly and the School of Medicine is prepared to carry on its long history of serving Oregon. The initiatives underway in the School of Medicine will address shortages, enhance educational curriculum to match future health care needs and develop new medical knowledge and technologies through basic, clinical and translational research. OHSU and the School of Medicine will continue to take on big challenges and big ideas, powered by generosity.
