A message of gratitude

There’s no other way to say it – 2011 was a terrific year in philanthropy at OHSU. During the fiscal year that ended on June 30, more than 15,600 donors contributed $100.5 million in new philanthropic commitments to advance OHSU’s vital missions. We are grateful and humbled by this outpouring of private support.

We know this level of commitment reflects a steadfast belief that OHSU can shape the future through the powerful combination of our missions – healing, teaching, discovery and outreach. Your philanthropic investment is what makes it possible for us to better understand and treat human disease, to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals, and to improve the health and well being of people in our region and far beyond.

There is something else reflected in this year’s success – big ideas. Some of the most sizable private gifts made to OHSU this year advanced innovative initiatives intended to help change the world: to transform dental education and care, to make personalized cancer medicine a reality, to create and test novel therapies for eye disease, and to support the exceptional work of faculty across the institution.

I believe that big ideas are inspired and enabled by gifts, big and small, and by the army of supporters and volunteers who daily advocate for OHSU in their communities. Your friendship makes it possible for us to aim so high and to transform lives. On behalf of the entire faculty and staff at OHSU, I extend profound personal thanks.
