Herbert Memorial Lecture

Edward Herbert

Edward Herbert

The annual lecture in honor of Edward Herbert, founding director of the Vollum, was of special significance in 2002 because it marked the 15th anniversary of Herbert’s death. Phillip Sharp from MIT gave the lecture, entitled “RNA splicing and RNA interference.” John Adelman, who worked in Herbert’s lab, presented an obituary written for the National Academy of Sciences in honor of Herbert’s achievements. The 2004 lecture, “The atomic basis for selective ion conduction in potassium channels,” was presented by Rod MacKinnon, professor and HHMI investigator at Rockefeller University. Sharp and MacKinnon were both Nobel prize recipients.

The 2006 Herbert Memorial Lecture will be held on March 13, 2006 in Vollum M1441 at 12:00. For more details, click here.
