Technology Transfer

John Adelman and Gail Clinton

Vollum faculty and researchers have continued to contribute to the growing Oregon biotechnology community. Since 2002, there have been five new discoveries, eight patent filings and seven issued patents, as well as nine new licenses arranged through the OHSU Office of Technology and Research Collaborations. In total, Vollum researchers have contributed to 135 discoveries, 178 patent filings, 89 issued patents, and 52 licenses. The Vollum portion of the proceeds from the technology transfer program have been used to support basic science graduate studies at OHSU, including the Neuroscience Graduate Program and the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences.

The work of Vollum scientists has also contributed to the formation of five start-up companies, including three during 2002–2004. These include Receptor Biologix Inc., which is working on anti-cancer strategies based on the discovery of the naturally occurring peptide herstatin (Gail Clinton and John Adelman), and Znomics, which is developing zebrafish as a genetic model system for the study of human disease (Roger Cone and Wenbiao Chen).
