The Vollum Institute currently has more than 200 faculty, students and staff from all over the world. Vollum investigators have uncovered novel brain pathways important for appetite regulation, determined how complexes of signaling proteins are targeted to different regions in the cell, and identified molecules that transmit information to the control regions of many mammalian genes. Advances from Vollum scientists have important implications for human disease and may lead to new treatments for obesity, depression, drug addiction, hearing loss, epilepsy, and memory disorders.
