Faculty Positions — Vollum Institute and Jungers Center

The Vollum Institute and the Jungers Center in association with the Department of Neurology announce faculty openings for outstanding scientists. For the Vollum search, we are particularly interested in individuals in the general areas of molecular and cellular neuroscience, molecular genetics, and/or mechanisms of signal transduction. For the Jungers search, we are interested in individuals whose work addresses neurological diseases, especially the fundamental causes and treatments of neural injury and neurodegeneration as well as mechanisms of neural repair and regeneration. Laboratory space is available in the Vollum Institute and the new adjoining Biomedical Research Building. It is expected that Jungers faculty will hold appointments in the Vollum Institute and the Department of Neurology. Vollum and Jungers appointments are fulltime research positions with minimal teaching or clinical requirements. Ample opportunities are available for collaboration with clinical units within the School of Medicine as well as research units at OHSU.

Applications will be considered at all levels. We offer attractive start-up packages and the opportunity to work in an outstanding scientific environment. Applicants should have a strong research record including several years of postdoctoral experience, and an interest in training graduate students. OHSU is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to maintaining diversity in its faculty. Candidates with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. can apply by sending an electronic copy of their curriculum vitae, a description of research plans and goals, and the names and contact information of three references by November 1, 2008 to:

Postdoctoral Fellow Positions

Barklis Lab

A molecular biology/virology postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. Eric Barklis, who holds joint appointments at the Vollum Institute and the Department of Microbiology, Oregon Health & Science University. Research concerns the assembly and structure of viruses, ribonucleoprotein complexes, and biopolymers. Approaches include molecular genetic, biochemical and biophysical methods, and include molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and electron microscope (EM) techniques. A Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, or chemistry is preferred, but applicants with degrees in other disciplines are invited to apply. For more on our research, please see Dr. Barklis's faculty page.

To apply: Send C.V. and names of three references to Dr. Eric Barklis, Department of Microbiology, Mail Code L220, Oregon Health & Science University, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Pk Rd, Portland, OR 97239-3098; or submit via email. OHSU is an EEO/AA employer.

Gillespie Lab

An electrophysiology postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. Peter Gillespie, a member both of the Vollum Institute and the Oregon Hearing Research Center, Oregon Health & Science University. The research focuses on mechanotransduction by hair cells, the sensory cells of the inner ear; see Dr. Gillespie's faculty page for more details and references. Substantial experience in standard patch-clamping techniques is required; training in methods specific to hair cells (e.g., mechanical stimulation) will be provided by the Gillespie lab or those of colleagues. The applicant must be motivated, be able to work independently, and be resourceful. An opportunity exists for the applicant to learn techniques for gene-targeting and other mouse genetics methods, as one project requires knock-in of a specific mutation into the mouse genome.

To apply: Send CV and names of three references to Dr. Peter Gillespie, Mail Code L335A, Oregon Health & Science University, 3181 SW Sam Jackson Pk Rd, Portland, OR 97239-3098; or submit via email. OHSU is an EEO/AA employer.
