CRASH VICTIM LULA JOHNSTON, 94, LEAVES OHSU HOSPITAL

Patient Joins Her Husband Paul, 95, at a Rehabilitation Facility in Mount Angel

PORTLAND, Ore. - On Tuesday, Sept. 5, at approximately 11:15 a.m., Lula Johnston, 94, was discharged from OHSU Hospital. She and her husband Paul, 95, were involved in a head-on collision on July 18 on Highway 99E south of Checkerboard Road. Lula sustained several broken ribs, a broken arm and a broken knee. Paul suffered a broken neck, fractured leg, fractured wrist, fractured hip and a closed head injury. He was released from OHSU Hospital on Aug. 8.

The couple first met and dated while attending a small college in Idaho 75 years ago. They drifted apart, but then reunited and married in June of this year. Lula has three children. Paul has four.

Lula and her family wish to thank the entire staff of OHSU Hospital for their care and support. "We are blessed and happy that Lula is now able to recuperate along with Paul at the same rehabilitation center," said Willis Packham, Lula's brother. "We all hope that both Paul and Lula will soon be able to continue their recovery at home."
