Trauma Coordinators
Maureen Harrahill, RN, ACNP & Lynn Eastes, RN, ACNP The OHSU Trauma Program employs two Trauma Coordinators with a multi-faceted role. The Trauma Coordinators are responsible for the administration of the Trauma Program budget, the Trauma Registry, quality management, professional education, injury prevention education, and research. The coordinators speak at national trauma conferences and publish frequently in the trauma nursing literature. The two Trauma Coordinators are also certified as Acute Care Nurse Practitioners. They initiated this role in 1997 and manage a caseload of patients within the trauma service. They typically manage geriatric trauma patients with multiple comorbid conditions or younger trauma patients with prolonged length of stay once these patients are transferred out of the ICU to the general care unit. The goal of this role is to provide consistency across the continuum of care for the patients and their families, which includes increasing patient and family satisfaction and process efficiency. The Trauma Coordinators supervise two part-time Trauma Case Managers who are responsible
for case management, utilization review, and the discharge planning for trauma patients. The
Trauma Case management role has been instrumental in decreasing trauma patient length of stay,
coordinating the patient's transition out of the hospital, and assuming smooth communication
with payers and primary care physicians.
