CAROL A. LINDEMAN AWARD FOR A NEW RESEARCHER

BACKGROUND

The WCHEN/WIN Annual Award for Achievement of a New Researcher was started in 1976 and supported through 1987 by Carol A. Lindeman, RN, PhD. The award was then renamed the Carol A. Lindeman Award for a New Researcher to recognize Dr. Lindeman's contributions to nursing research. The recipient will receive a certificate and a cash award of $100.00. The award-winning paper, in its entirety, will be included in the conference Proceedings.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility for the Carol A. Lindeman Award for a New Researcher is tied to the abstract submission process. Those eligible for the award will be individuals who:

  1. submit an abstract for consideration by the Program Committee;
  2. mark the appropriate item on the online Abstract Submission Form indicating the desire to be considered for the Carol A. Lindeman Award for a New Researcher;
  3. are graduate students, or nurses not more than two years post highest degree earned;
  4. have assumed primary responsibility for the conceptualization, design, and conduct of the research to be presented during a podium or symposium presentation. (An advisor may not be listed as co-author but may be recognized in the text.);
  5. have their respective abstracts accepted by the Program Committee for presentation as completed research at the 2009 Communicating Nursing Research Conference;
  6. submit a full paper of up to five (5) pages on the completed research for award consideration by the deadline of Friday, January 23, 2009 ; and
  7. have not had the five page paper accepted by another regional or national organization for publication or presentation prior to WIN's submission date of Friday, January 23, 2009.

Notice of abstract selection and additional information about submitting a full paper for consideration for the Lindeman Award will be sent in mid-December 2008 to those who qualify.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

Each five page paper will be judged on the basis of:

  1. quality of research;
  2. quality of written presentation; and
  3. relevance of the study for the discipline of nursing.
SELECTION PROCESS

The WIN Program Committee will select the 2009 recipient. The Committee includes: Judy Berg, Lauren Clark, Tina DeLapp, Marie Driever, Margaret Heitkemper, Martha J. Lentz, Lori Loan, Marie Lobo, Barbara Mandleco, Patricia Pearce, Anne Marie Kotzer and Karen Zulkowski. All who submit papers will be notified of the committee's decision by February 2009.

PRESENTATION OF AWARD

The Carol A. Lindeman Award for a New Researcher will be presented at the awards ceremony held in conjunction with the 42 nd Annual Communicating Nursing Research Conference, April 22-25, 2009,at the Salt Lake City Hilton Downtown. . The chair of the Program Committee will introduce the award recipient. A plaque and a cash award of $100 will be presented at the awards ceremony.

CONFERENCE EXPENSES

WIN is not able to defray registration fees or reimburse travel expenses for the award recipient.

Abstracts are accepted through the WIN online abstract submission form . The link to the individual paper submission form is located at the end of the Call for Abstracts. The 5 page paper to be considered for the award will be submitted via email to win@ohsu.edu by the stated deadline.
