REGIONAL GERIATRIC NURSING RESEARCH AWARD
BACKGROUND
In 2001, WIN established the Regional Geriatric Nursing Research Award in partnership with the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing. The overall goal in initiating the award is to foster and showcase geriatric nursing research. Two recipients may be selected annually: 1) a senior researcher; and 2) a new researcher. The senior researcher will receive a plaque; and the new researcher will receive a plaque and a cash award of $200.00.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES
- The individual who is submitting the nomination must be an individual member of WIN or be from a WIN member agency.
- The nomination form must be completed for each nominee.
- Each nominee must have a sponsor and a co-sponsor.
- Each nomination must include the sponsor's nominating statement and a letter from the co-sponsor, neither of which shall exceed one (1) single-spaced page. Each letter should specifically address the Selection Criteria below.
- Five copies of each completed nomination packet, including a cover letter, completed nomination form, and statements from the sponsor and the co-sponsor, none of which shall exceed one single-spaced page must be mailed so the materials are received in the WIN office by 4:30 PM, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2005.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
- Award for a Senior Researcher: Each nomination must include statements from the sponsor and co-sponsor that provide a synthesis of how the nominee's geriatric research career has made a substantial and sustained contribution to the discipline of nursing.
- Award for a New Researcher: Each nomination must include statements from the sponsor and co-sponsor that provide evidence of the promise of the researcher, including completed research, publications and presentations.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Geriatric Nursing Research Award Selection Committee will select the 2006 recipients. The Committee includes: Patricia Archbold, Jeanie Kayser-Jones and Linda Phillips. All who submit nominations will be notified of the decision by January 2006. The persons nominating the award recipients will have the opportunity to notify the respective award recipient prior to notification by WIN.
PRESENTATION OF AWARD
The Geriatric Nursing Research Award(s) will be presented at the awards ceremony held in conjunction with the 39th Annual Communicating Nursing Research Conference/20th Annual WIN Assembly, April 6-8, 2006 at the Albuquerque Hilton Hotel, Albuquerque, NM. The person who submitted the nomination for the award recipient will introduce the individual and briefly share the reasons why the person(s) is deserving of the award. A plaque will be presented to the Senior Researcher and a plaque and a cash award of $200 will be presented to the New Researcher.
CONFERENCE EXPENSES
WIN is not able to defray registration fees or reimburse travel expenses for the award recipients, sponsors or co-sponsors.
