PAT A. PERRY AWARD FOR BIOLOGICAL NURSING RESEARCH
BACKGROUND
The Annual Biological Nursing Research Award was started, and is supported, by Pat A. Perry, RN, PhD, Professor (Retired), Arizona State University College of Nursing. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding biological research conducted by nurses. The award recipient will receive a certificate and a cash award of $100.00. The award-winning paper, in its entirety, will be included in the conference proceedings.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES
ELIGIBILITY
Eligibility for the
Pat A. Perry
Award for Biological Nursing Research
is tied to the abstract submission process. Those
eligible for the award will be individuals who:
- submit an abstract for consideration by the Program Committee;
- mark the appropriate item onthe online Abstract Submission Form indicating the desire to be considered for the Pat A. Perry Award for Biological Nursing Research;
- are doctoral or post-doctoral students, not more than two years from receiving the doctoral degree;
- have assumed primary responsibility for the conceptualization, design, and conduct for the study reported;
- have conducted a study dealing with biological phenomenon, preferably basic science questions;
- have their respective abstracts accepted by the Program Committee for presentation as completed research at the 2009 Communicating Nursing Research Conference;
- submit a full paper of up to five (5) pages on the completed research for award consideration by the deadline of January 23, 2009; and
- have not had the five page paper accepted by another regional or national organization for publication or presentation prior to WIN's submission date of Friday, January 23, 2009.
Notice of abstract selection and additional information about submitting a full paper for consideration for the Award for Biological Nursing Research will be sent in mid- December 2008 to those who qualify.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Each five page paper will be judged on the basis of:
- quality of research;
- quality of written presentation; and
- relevance of the study for the discipline of nursing.
SELECTION PROCESS
The Pat A. Perry Biological Nursing Research Award Selection Committee will select the 2009 recipient. The Committee consists of Pat Perry, Chair; Elizabeth Bridges and Carolyn Yucha. All who submit papers will be notified of the committee's decision by February 2009.
PRESENTATION OF AWARD
The Pat A. Perry Biological Nursing Research Award will be presented at the awards ceremony held in conjunction with the 42nd Annual Communicating Nursing Research Conference, April 22-25, 2009 at the Salt Lake City Hilton Downtown. The chair of the Selection Committee or designee will introduce the award recipient. A plaque and a cash award of $100 will be presented at the awards ceremony.
CONFERENCE EXPENSES
WIN is not able to defray registration fees or reimburse travel expenses for the award recipient.

The 5 page paper to be considered for the award will be submitted via email to win@ohsu.edu by the stated deadline.
