Description: This presentation will address the spectrum for funding your research career, from a small grant to a large federal grant. Dr. Marshall will provide the novice researcher with the basics to write a research abstract, proposal, and/or grant for submission. This session will enable participants to gain a basic understanding of the steps of the abstract/proposal/grant writing process in order for them to put forth a submission in the future for a Sigma Theta Tau International small grant, amongst others. Practical information will be given on the writing, submission and follow-up process. Dr. Smothers will describe and discuss the NIH grants process from beginning to end, with an emphasis on practical information for charting your course through the system. Sections are: missions and strategic plans; mechanisms of support; funding opportunity announcements; pre-submission; submission through peer review; and post-review.
