Description: Accelerometry is considered "state of the art" to obtain information on physical activity levels of children and adults. With an increased interest in measuring physical activity, educators, clinicians, and researchers must be knowledgeable about strengths and challenges of accelerometry measurement. This highly interactive, hands-on workshop focuses on accelerometry monitoring of activity and how to clean and interpret data obtained from the accelerometer. Each participant will work hands-on with setting up and initializing an accelerometer, , downloading the raw data and exploring a dataset. Discussion will include decision points critical in accelerometry data for children, adolescents, and adults, issues regarding the limitations of accelerometry, and analysis techniques and options for interpreting the data. The ActicalŽ accelerometer (Philips/Respironics, Bend, OR) will be used.
