Let's Celebrate WIN!
The Western Institute of Nursing celebrated its 50th Anniversary at the 2007 Communicating Nursing Research Conference! In 1957, the organization was the Western Council on Higher Education in Nursing (WCHEN), a structural entity of the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education (WICHE) in Boulder , Colorado . In 1985, following extensive deliberations by special committees, the decision was made to create an autonomous, self-supporting organization. The organization was then named the Western Institute of Nursing (WIN). In 1996, the organization moved to Portland , Oregon where it is headquartered today. WIN was incorporated on November 3, 1998 in accordance with the Oregon Nonprofit Corporation Act.
