Volunteer Opportunity This past summer, nursing students from OHSU had the opportunity of working with pregnant inmates at Inverness Jail. They discovered that there was a profound need for prenatal and childbirth education in this population. The teaching sessions were well received by the inmates, and they requested to have more. Recently, these students were granted permission from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Volunteer services to begin to provide regular lessons in prenatal health and childbirth to the inmates. Interested? Yes. …Then read on! We are looking for nursing students and other health care professionals with a background or interest in maternal/child health who would like to volunteer to work with pregnant inmates at Inverness Jail. If you are interested,
keep in mind that this is not an OHSU sponsored effort. Volunteers will
need to go through a background check and interview process, as well as
a two hour safety training with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department.
Still interested? For more information or to start application process, contact Jana Flesher, R.N., midwifery graduate student at 503-975-4615 or flesherj@ohsu.edu. Please distribute
this information to others if appropriate. Thank you.
