Student Enrollment Commitment
B.S. Nursing Program (OCNE)
Achieving
the Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing degree:
As a
current student at Lane CC, Clackamas CC, Mt. Hood CC, Rogue CC, Umpqua
CC, or Southwestern Oregon CC, you may continue your nursing program to
receive a B.S. with a major in nursing degree through Oregon Health &
Science University (OHSU). In order to move forward with your educational
planning, you need to declare
your intent to complete the B.S. with us as an OHSU student.
What the B.S.
degree in nursing does for you:
- Extends and deepens
your knowledge, skill, and competence in nursing practice.
- Provides in-depth
study in the new competencies deemed essential for 21st century nursing
practice, including public health and population-focused care, leadership,
and engaging in activities that will improve patient care.
- Opens the door
to many more career options: leadership positions; advanced study as
a nurse practitioner, clinical specialist, nursing faculty member, and/or
nurse researcher.
- More earning power
in the future.
Why continue
now:
- Once you get away
from the routine of taking classes, it is very difficult to gear up
again. We find that students are more successful in completing the B.S.
degree if they continue their education immediately, rather than taking
a break for a period of time.
- You will get to
complete a two-quarter internship at one of several sites throughout
the state. The internship will give you an opportunity to focus your
learning on a particular population and their specific health care needs.
Pathways into
the B.S. Degree
For students who entered
in their community college in the fall term see example program
of study. You can transition
to OHSU coursework in the spring or fall term of your final year as
a Community College student, or opt in one year after your graduation. There are a number of options to move forward
to complete the B.S. degree. Please review your options below:
Pathway A: Spring Entry: OCNE Students Direct Transition from Community College Partner School: You may choose to transition to OHSU spring term of your final year at the community college and move seamlessly into the upper division (400 level) nursing coursework without graduating with your AAS from your community college. On this pathway, students will have the opportunity to take classes at OHSU on the Portland or Ashland campus as space allows. Students who choose this pathway will take 4 quarters as an OHSU student and will graduate with the B.S. degree in nursing.
Pathway B: Fall
Entry: OCNE Students who complete the AAS at Community College Partner
School: You may choose to complete the AAS and transition to OHSU after
your final year at the community college. With this option you would
be required to complete NRS224 Scope of Practice. Students who elect this option would begin taking classes through OHSU fall term, and you may have the opportunity to take courses on the Portland campus or online via our Ashland campus. Students who choose this pathway will take 3 quarters as an OHSU student and will graduate with the B.S. degree in nursing.
Pathway C: A
Year After Graduation: One year step out option for students with
the AAS from a CC Partner School: You may defer progress into OHSU nursing courses for one academic year while completing any remaining non-nursing courses. With this option, you would be required to complete NRS224 Scope of Practice for the AA degree Students who elect this option would matriculate in the spring or fall term a year after graduation. Your entry term and class modality will be determined by OHSU, dependent upon the cohort size and availability of courses. Students will be notified as soon as possible from OHSU.
For students
who entered in their community college in the winter term, see example
program of study. You can transition to OHSU coursework in the fall term after your final year as a Community College student, or opt in one year after your graduation. There are a number of options to move forward to complete the B.S. degree. Please review your options below:

have up to three years to notify OHSU that they would like to re-commit
for completion of the B.S. degree, as space allows. Please see non-commitment
agreement form.
- Students who exceed
three years to notify OHSU would need to reapply to the RN to Bachelor
of Science (RN-BS) program. Please see non-commitment
agreement form.
Eligibility:
You are eligible to
complete the B.S. degree portion of the program if:
- You are in good
academic standing in your current nursing program. OHSU will request

are in good academic standing at the time you commit and again prior
to matriculation.

to complete your non-nursing coursework within the required timeframe.
