Research Training: Risk Assessment and Intervention Research with Individuals and Families (T32 NRO7061)
Program Director: Judith Kendall, RN, PhD
Professor

This training grant awards both predoctoral and postdoctoral fellowships. Whereas the emphasis in the past training programs has been with those potential researchers focused on family health, the current program emphasizes the preparation of nurse scientists to launch independent programs of research that will embrace individual and family perspectives, encompass risk assessment and intervention, and link findings to health and public policy in order to reduce health disparities. Core faculty members represent a range of research programs directed toward risk assessment and intervention, including domestic violence, symptom management in cancer care, heart disease, child attention disorders, and parenting and child development. The predoctoral training program provides two fellowships each year, for up to 2 years, to those qualified students who wish to obtain research training in risk assessment and/or intervention research, with individuals and families experiencing health disparities. The postdoctoral training program provides advanced and specialized training to nurses with doctoral preparation who have demonstrated potential for research careers. A total of six 2-year fellowships and 2 1-year fellowships will be awarded.
