Third-Annual Henrietta Doltz Puhaty Endowed Lecture

 

"Optimizing Care for Hospitalized Older Adults"

Elizabeth Capezuti,
PhD, RN, APRN-BC, FAAN,
associate professor and co-director,
John A. Hartford Foundation Institute for Geriatric Nursing
New York University College of Nursing

Dr. Capezuti will address strategies for enhancing care, reducing risk and improving health and functional outcomes for hospitalized older adults. Findings from her research have been used to draft federal regulations related to nursing home care. As the director of the Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE) program, Capezuti guides the mission of sensitive and exemplary patient-centered care for people age 65 and over.

Following Dr. Capezuti's presentation, our panel of experts will discuss the aging of America and the geriatric nursing agenda
from the perspectives of leaders in education, research, clinical practice and philanthropy. Panel discussion will be moderated by Heather M. Young, PhD, GNP, FAAN, director of the John A. Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, Grace Phelps Distinguished Professor and director of Rural Health Research Development.

Director of the School of Nursing from 1944 to 1956, Henrietta Doltz Puhaty and her family established this endowed lectureship as an opportunity for professional growth and development while fundraising for the school. Mrs. Puhaty is fondly remembered for her passion for nursing and her many civic contributions to the community of Portland.
