Linda Glenn, M.P.H., M.N., C.N.M., P.M.H.N.P. - Linda Glenn completed her nurse-midwifery education at the University of Mississippi in 1975 and then spent 13 years attending births at home and in small, rural hospitals before coming to OHSU. She has continued her practice of assisting people to birth in both the home and hospital settings since moving to Oregon. Linda is also a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and uses those skills in the care of women and families at OHSU. She has an adult son with a love of the outdoors and she enjoys reading, woodworking, and home activities during her spare time. Sally Hersh, C.N.M., M.S. - Sally Hersh is a nurse-midwife who has practiced in Chicago, Boston, and Portland. She received her Masters Degree from University of Illinois in Chicago. She speaks Spanish and French and especially enjoys working with women from a variety of cultures. Sally sings with a womens vocal ensemble and also enjoys reading, dance, yoga, and gardening. Her husband works at OHSU and they have two daughters. Carol Howe, C.N.M., D.N.Sc., F.A.C.N.M. - Carol Howe received her nurse-midwifery preparation at Yale University. She subsequently received her doctorate in nursing from the University of California at San Francisco. She is the Director of the Nurse-Midwifery Education Program at the Oregon Health & Science University and has served on the Board of Directors of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She has also been the president of the ACNM Certifcation Council, the national certifying organization for nurse-midwives. She and her husband have two children, a son newly married who is an attorney and a daughter in law school. They enjoy camping and hiking, Shakespeare and going to UW Husky football games. Elizabeth Kavanaugh, C.N.M., M.S.N. - Elizabeth Kavanaugh came to midwifery after 12 years of labor and delivery nursing. She received her BSN from University of Portland and her midwifery training at OHSU. Her work with Mexican and Central American immigrants inspired her to visit the countries of which her patients spoke. The desire to understand and communicate with her patients compelled her to learn Spanish. Now fluent, the Latina population remains a primary focus of her care. Elizabeth maintains the clinic portion of her practice with Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Clinic in Hillsboro. Elizabeth and her husband, Neil, have two daughters, Olivia and Fiona. Patricia Hanson, C.N.M., M.S.N. - Patti Hanson is a graduate from the nurse-midwifery program at Columbia University in New York where she received her Masters of Nursing degree. She also holds a bachelors degree in biology from the George Washington University and a bachelors degree in nursing from Columbia University. Patti has been practicing midwifery in Oregon since 1999. She serves as the practice coordinator for the OHSU Midwifery clinical practice. Patti has experience working in urban as well as rural midwifery settings. In her free time, Patti enjoys skiing, hiking, kayaking, and travel with her husband. Nancy Lowe, C.N.M., Ph.D., F.A.C.N.M. - Nancy Lowe joined the nurse-midwifery team at OHSU in 2002 from Columbus, Ohio. She has been a nurse for more than 35 years, with all but three of those years concentrated on the care of mothers and babies. She received her nurse-midwifery preparation through the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, KY after receiving her doctoral degree in nursing science from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Previously she developed a graduate program and clinical practice in nurse-midwifery at The Ohio State University. She is currently the president of the ACNM Certifcation Council and the editor of the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN). She and her husband are the proud parents of a daughter and two sons, two daughters-in-law, two grandsons and two granddaughters. Polly Malby, C.N.M., M.S.N. - Polly Malby is originally from southern Oregon and obtained her Masters in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She completed the nurse-midwifery program at the University of Mississippi and has worked in various settings including the Falkland Islands. Polly enjoys textile arts and traveling with her husband. She is thoroughly enjoying her new role as a grandmother. Penni Harmon, C.N.M., M.S.N. - Penni Harmon graduated from the Yale University School of Nursing in 1980 and has practiced midwifery for over 20 years primarily in out-of-hospital settings, including home and birth center care. Her other interests center around her family and outdoor activities. She is glad to be back in Oregon after a number of years in New York. Ellen Tilden, C.N.M. - Ellen Tilden received her BA from Reed College and her training as a nurse-midwife at University of California, San Francisco. She subsequently practiced in Chicago with Central American immigrant families at two community health centers. Ellen lives with her husband, Jiro, and their one year old son, Avery. In her free time, she enjoys gardening and yoga. Margaret Shaw, Ph.D., C.N.M. - Maggie Shaw has an extensive background in women's health care. She has worked in both private and public practice; most recently she worked in private practice helping to deliver babies and coordinating the prenatal program at the McMinnville office of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. During her more than 16 years working in Yamhill County, Shaw coordinated a countywide breast-feeding task force and a countywide access to prenatal care task force. She received her nurse-midwifery degree from the University of Southern California and her doctoral degree from OHSU School of Nursing. Shaw speaks fluent Spanish.
