| Welcome to the Nurse-Midwifery Faculty Practice at OHSU! (Click here for information in Spanish.)
We are a group of ten certified nurse-midwives who practice in a variety of settings throughout the OHSU system. We love working with women and their families and are pleased to give you information about our service.
As Certified Nurse-Midwives, we provide the following women's health care services:
The OHSU nurse-midwifery practice provides outpatient care in two locations: The OHSU Center
for Women's Health Outpatient Clinic The OHSU Sellwood-Moreland
Clinic There is a certified nurse-midwife on call twenty-four hours day, seven days a week for labor and birth care, as well as after hour emergency care. For routine, non-emergency questions or appointment scheduling, contact us at our clinics Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The certified nurse-midwives in our group are registered nurses who have advanced degrees in midwifery. In addition, some of us have postgraduate degrees in public health and mental health, or have doctorates of nursing. We are employees of the OHSU School of Nursing and are educators as well as clinicians. We have a strong commitment to educating our nurse-midwifery graduate students in all of our practice settings. During labor and birth, most women feel that the extra support provided by a student is very valuable and welcome. We are independent practitioners with a long-standing professional relationship with the OHSU Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The OB/GYN physicians serve as our consultants in cases of higher risk. We can prescribe medications in accordance with Oregon state law. The hallmarks of midwifery care are: Family centered care If you are pregnant, we encourage you to feel free to select those people to be present at the birth with whom you wish to share this event. For some women, birth is a private occasion. For others, it is a time to share a wondrous experience with loved ones. The health professionals involved will be one of the certified nurse-midwives, a labor room nurse, and a nurse-midwifery student. Although our specialty is normal pregnancies, seeing a nurse-midwife does not guarantee that every pregnancy will stay normal (unfortunately!). If a complication is minor, the nurse-midwives will remain your primary provider. If a complication is major (such as a cesarean birth), your care will be transferred to a doctor. The nurse-midwives will still stay involved in your care. We are very pleased to provide your women's health care and are eager to work with you. |
