Carol
Terhune, J.D., M.A.O.D., has been appointed assistant director
of the office of professional and diversity development, a new position
at the School of Nursing, effective June 9. Terhune will assist Charla
Hayden, M.A., director of the office of professional and diversity development,
in leading the school’s development of an integrated and diverse
community of learning among all School of Nursing members. The primary
focus of Terhune’s position is the development and integration
of diversity initiatives including recruitment, training, development,
and retention efforts to build an effective and diverse School of Nursing
community. In addition, Terhune will teach courses in the school’s
undergraduate and graduate programs.
Terhune comes to the School of Nursing from OHSU Human Resources,
where she was a management consultant and trainer. Terhune, a
certified mediator, practiced employment and labor law in Chicago,
Ill., and worked as assistant counsel with the National Treasury
Employees Union and the Oregon Nurses Association. She has worked
as a human resources manager and external consultant developing
small and midsize businesses. Terhune is currently training in
the sociotechnical systems theory developed in the Tavistock
model with A.K. Rice Institute. Terhune is a specialist in organizational
and employment issues, including work group development, dispute
resolution, labor and employee relations, creating diversity
initiatives, performance management and training. She has consulted
to the Social Security Administration and presented at various
conferences and forums on topics relating to diversity and cultural
competency, as well as published in the same field. |
