This
Month in Nursing eNotes: February 2004 (go
to archives) The Oregon Senate
has confirmed Gov. Ted Kulongoski's three new appointments to the Oregon
Health & Science University Board of Directors. The three newest members
are Charles Wilhoite, Meredith Wilson, and School of Nursing graduate
student Kathryn Smith. For more, go to: As you get older,
you may visit your doctor one day and end up taking a few tests that measure
your memory and cognition skills. Research on diagnosing Alzheimer's disease
suggests that those kinds of tests administered during routine office
visits could improve the ability of doctors to catch developing symptoms
of the disease. If you ask anyone at the OHSU Layton Center for Aging
and Alzheimer's Disease Research what challenges health care professionals
face in treating Alzheimer's they will surely mention the importance of
recognizing and diagnosing the disease at an early stage. To read more
about what OHSU’s Jeffrey Kaye, M.D., Linda Boise, Ph.D., and Karen
Talerico, Ph.D., R.N., C.N.S., are accomplishing at the Alzheimer’s
center, read the OPB article at: Make a gift and earn
income from it? Give to the School of Nursing at next to no cost to you?
Sounds too good to be true, but several vehicles are available to benefit
both the school and the donor. Planned gifts provide customized opportunities
for many donors to benefit during their lifetime. There are many options
outside of bequests. Planned gifts can strengthen the donor's position
and benefit school. OHSU Foundation has a top-notch, well-experienced
planned giving office, so donors don't need to be experts about these
complex giving vehicles. The foundation is available to work closely with
individual donors to find giving options that fit each individual situation.
So before you decide that you cannot afford to support the School of Nursing,
take a look at: Are you still considering
