"My life's work centers on improving outcomes for women with coronary heart disease. My research, clinical practice, and community service are devoted to this goal. In my program of research on treatment-seeking delay for cardiac symptoms, I currently have two research studies in progress. Decision Delay in Women with Acute Myocardial Infarction focuses on describing women’s decision trajectories from the time of symptom onset to entry into the health care system, and using this information to develop an intervention to decrease delay time. The next step will be to test the efficacy of this intervention in a clinical trial for women at risk of myocardial infarction. Family Narratives of Sudden Cardiac Death seeks to describe the symptoms and actions of victims of out-of-hospital cardiac death and to use this information to refine teaching efforts aimed at reducing sudden cardiac death in both high risk patients and the general public. We are doing this study because these are the stories we need to hear—what happened to those people who died before they reached the hospital?

I am very fortunate to work in an environment that fosters and encourages my efforts. I work with an outstanding research team that includes project directors, research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral students. Together, we are devoted to making a difference in women's heart health. We are also committed to creating a creative and scholarly learning environment for each other."
