Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Lee-Lin is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing of Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), and was named as the Outstanding Undergraduate Faculty in 2005.

Dr. Lee-Lin has been in cancer nursing since 1986, functioning as a clinical nurse, oncology educator, clinical nurse specialist, nurse manager, assistant director, senior research nurse, and academic faculty member. Her broad clinical experience is complemented by her deep research interests, in particular in nursing issues with Asian Americans. Her Master’s thesis from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) studied the informational needs of newly diagnosed Chinese American cancer patients. She recently completed her doctoral work at the University of Utah, earning a Ph.D. in Cancer Nursing Research. Her dissertation studied the knowledge, beliefs (perceived risks, susceptibility, benefits, common and cultural barriers), and practices related to mammography and Pap smear screening among Chinese American women. She developed a comprehensive and culturally relevant instrument based on the Health Belief Model and worked closely with many Chinese American communities in the Portland metro area. She has applied several statistical tools to the analysis of the collected data. She has presented her findings locally and regionally. The dissertation received the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the University of Utah College of Nursing. Dr. Lee-Lin also has extensive experience in instrument translation and staff training.

She has published in Oncology Nursing Forum, Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN), and Western Journal of Nursing Research (WJNR). Dr. Lee-Lin is a co-investigator in a study of the experience of hair loss with cancer chemotherapy with Dr. Lillian Nail at OHSU. The preliminary data indicate that there are significant differences in response to hair loss among different ethnic groups. In addition, she is a co-investigator of a recently funded R21 study on colorectal screening in Asian Americans with Dr. David Lieberman. She is also submitted two grant proposal which will further refine and extend her dissertation work.

Dr. Lee-Lin has been a Faculty-in-Residence for oncology and has worked to support scholarship and development of nurses at OHSU. She mentors new graduates, encourages ongoing development of more experienced oncology nurses, and works through the Oncology Nursing Society and other groups to advance oncology nursing locally and nationally. She serves on the Ethnic Minority Faculty Council at OHSU. She is also an active volunteer in the Portland Asian community, and has participated in Asian Community Health Fairs. She is a peer reviewer for the Komen Foundation, Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved (JHCPU), WJNR, Women & Health, and Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health.

Finally and most importantly, Dr. Lee-Lin and her husband, Dr. Allen Lin, a computer scientist, are the proud parents of two sons.
