"My interests in nursing incorporate and support the three missions of OHSU. I value and work towards the goal of being an expert teacher. I have taught students of different ages in many subjects (biological sciences to nursing sciences) and using a variety of delivery systems (classroom, experiential, online). I believe in the power of “stories” from my 18 years of critical care nursing and 10 years of advanced practice to inform and inspire students.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, providing care to rural Oregonians, I strive to develop a client-focused plan of care and serve as a health education resource. As a practitioner for the university’s student health center, I care for the acute needs of the students while guiding them towards healthy-living practices. As part of my scholarly work for the advanced practice profession I have written a bi-monthly drug news article for The Nurse Practitioner Journal since 2003.
My research interests focus on the inter-relationships between the environment, the healthcare system, and clients. These topics will be a part of the DNP course I will teach: “Health Determinants: Genetics and the Physical Environment”. My scholarly work is directed towards promoting a “Greener” nursing practice to minimize healthcare’s negative impacts on local and global environments.
As a faculty member for the DNP program, I am available as a teacher, mentor, and resource for students. I believe my role is to guide and support graduate students in their educational development. "
