"My passion is working with adults who are coping with chronic illness to maintain their health. My goal is to improve the quality of care for adults in primary care settings and promote the role of advanced practice nurses, specifically the nurse practitioner. I am enthusiastic about the opportunities for change in the delivery of health care as we collaborate with other professions to create a new health care system to better serve the complex needs of our patients today and tomorrow. I work with master’s and doctoral students on scholarly clinical inquiry. I enjoy teaching the International Student Seminar and hope to assist students to become leaders in improving the health of people around the world."

EDUCATION

University of California, San Francisco, DNCs

TEACHING

"I helped develop and am faculty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. I also teach an International Student Seminar (for international PhD students and scholars) devoted to research critique in their areas of interest. The master’s courses I teach are on advanced practice roles and primary care management of adults for students enrolled in the advanced practice specialties."

RESEARCH

"I am not currently engaged in funded research. I mentor master’s students’ research projects. I have previously served as co-investigator on federally funded studies. The topics of my previous research include research utilization; practice patterns of NP students across four universities; improving nurses’ critical thinking and nurses’ caring behaviors for dying patients. I have used diabetes self-efficacy and social support to predict self care and developed and tested an exercise intervention for type 2 diabetics. My work is primarily quantitative, descriptive and predictive. I have conducted research within nursing and with other disciplines using a variety of designs and methods including instrument development and translation."

PRACTICE

"I practice as an Adult Nurse Practitioner making housecalls to elderly and homebound patients whether they are in private residences, assisted living, nursing homes or foster care."
