The 10th Annual Northwest Nursing Education Institute
Building Bridges: Collaborative Relationship that Work – the Oregon Model
June 16-19, 2009

Call for Posters

The Planning Committee for the 10th Annual Northwest Nursing Education Institute (NWNEI) is now accepting online abstracts for presentation as posters and/or oral presentations at the 2008 Northwest Nursing Education Institute. Presentations are given in 90 minute blocks or in poster format.

The purpose of the NWNEI is to provide an opportunity for nurses and students to meet together to develop, renew and refine the knowledge and skills needed for the teaching of nursing in educational and in clinical settings. The 2008 program has a very special focus on a successful collaboration between the philanthropic communities to foster innovations that help address the nursing shortage crisis. Those familiar with past conference programs will enjoy the characteristic hands-on sessions. In addition, there will be special attention to the philanthropic-nursing collaborations that have resulted in innovations in the state of Oregon. Want to know how to develop collaborations with the philanthropic community or how to begin some of the Oregon innovations receiving national attention? Faculty from schools of nursing, staff development specialists from clinical agencies, clinical nurse specialists and students and nurses who intend to move into educator roles will find this program of great interest.

Institute content is geared to both novice and expert educators and to staff developers, and the Planning Committee strives to present the latest information on teaching practices and on issues facing nurse educators, regardless of setting. Concurrent sessions provide the opportunity for in-depth exploration and discussion among participants, actual development of instructional tools, and/or practice in using some instructional methods. Abstracts may reflect projects, research and/or innovations applicable to education in the academic or clinical setting.

Submission Guidelines:
Poster presenters need to submit abstracts that:

  1. do not exceed one page;
  2. are appropriate to the conference theme, and especially address diversity in nursing curricula; and
  3. include a completed “Presenter Information Sheet” including the presenters name, position affiliation and city/state; title of the abstract; and description of the content to be given (only one presenter sheet needs to be submitted).

Criteria:
The Committee will look at program balance between: presentations geared toward academic and clinical settings; papers directed at novice, expert and staff development educators. The committee will also consider clarity of presentation, conclusions, implications for nursing education, and innovations.

Poster Session:
Posterboards will be provided for all poster displays. A special category is available for students who want to display a poster. The posters will be displayed on Monday, June 16, 2008 through the evening reception preceding the keynote presentation.

Submission Deadline:
Proposals must be received in the CE office, OHSU School of Nursing no later than 5:00 PM on Monday, April 21, 2008.

Notification:
All submitters will be notified of the Committee’s decisions no later than April 30, 2008
