The 10th Annual Northwest Nursing Education Institute
June 16 – 19, 2008

We are pleased to announce a very exciting program for the 2008 Annual Northwest Nursing Education Institute. The theme is, “Transforming Nursing Education: Leading Edge Models.”

Exciting educational innovations are transforming nursing education in Oregon and beyond. Have you wanted to know more about the Oregon Consortium on Nursing Education, revolutionary curriculum models, new approaches in clinical education and the applicability of arts and sciences in nursing education? Join us this summer in beautiful Portland, Oregon to learn and to share in a highly practical, hands-on educational institute designed for educators from academic and clinical staff development.

Our dynamic and forward-thinking speakers will address:
June 16: Innovations in Nursing Education to Inspire Transformation across the Country, including the unprecedented community college-university collaboration of the Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education, and a keynote presentation by Dr. Beverly Malone, chief executive officer, National League for Nursing.

June 17: Emerging Approaches to Enhancing Cultural Diversity, New Pedagogies and Curriculum Models, including a plenary session by Dr. Christine Tanner, OHSU, on “Whatever Happened to the Curriculum Revolution? New Models for Nursing Education;” and by Dr. Pamela Mitchell, University of Washington, on “What's New in Quality and Safety in Nursing: Are We as Competent as We Think?”

June 18: New strategies for clinical education to increase capacity and improve quality with plenaries by Paula Gubrud-Howe, Oregon Consortium on Nursing Education, on “Clinical Education Redesign in Oregon” and Dr. Patricia Ebright, Indiana University, on “Factors Leading to Near Misses in the Neophyte Nurse.”

June 19: Teaching Patient-Centered Care, including a plenary session on “Helping our students understand the lived experience of our patients: Arts and science in nursing education” by Dr. Phillip Darbyshire, University of South Australia.

Continuing Education Credit

Refund Policy

The registration fee, less a $50 handling fee, will be refunded for written cancellation requests received in the OHSU CE office by 5:00 PM on Friday, June 6, 2008. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after this date.
