SCHOOL OF NURSING ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
MENTOR PROGRAM

Mentor Activities May Include:

  • Being a contact for a student/alum to help him/her think about a nursing career in a particular specialty area.
  • Providing support and advice, as needed, to a student/alum.
  • Providing contact information, as appropriate, for a new graduate/alum looking for job placement in a particular specialty area.
  • Following up with the student/alum to see how he/she is doing and staying in touch through the first six months following graduation, if mutually desirable.
  • Meeting with the student, if possible, to provide support during this transition phase from student to professional.
  • Reviewing the student's/alum's resume and providing interviewing tips.
  • Helping the student/alum maintain a life long learning commitment to nursing by discussing further educational opportunities for advanced practice, continuing education in specialty areas, professional organization membership, conferences that may be of interest, etc.
  • Serving as a resource of educational opportunities (conferences, local chapter meetings of specialty organizations, etc.) in the desired specialty.

How it Works:

  • Your information will added to a directory and distributed to all OHSU School of Nursing students and requesting alumni.
  • The mentee will contact the mentor of his/her choice and establish the relationship.
