Information about the Non-Nursing Requirements
Natural
Sciences
- Chemistry: Must be a one-year sequence of inorganic, organic and
biochemistry with laboratory. Some schools only offer a laboratory
with inorganic and organic, but not biochemistry. Consult your advisor
for the appropriate chemistry sequence.
- College Algebra: Completion of college calculus
or a higher mathematics course is sufficient to fulfill this requirement.
This is typically Math 111 or above. Intermediate algebra will not
suffice.
- Statistics: Needs to include both descriptive and inferential.
If there is a choice between one type or another then take the descriptive.
It is not necessary to take two courses in order to get inferential
statistics. Statistics may be taken in any department (e.g. math,
psych, business, etc.).
Arts
and Letters and Humanities
- Written English/English Composition: Development and support of ideas
through the media of written English. This is not required if a previous
baccalaureate degree is held.

or history, music appreciation or history, theater arts or speech,
literature, philosophy, women's studies, foreign language or intercultural
communication. These are not required if a previous baccalaureate
degree is held.

- General Psychology: Basic introduction to the field
of psychology, inclusive of biologic, cognitive, personal and social
development of humans.
- General Sociology: Basic introduction to the field
of sociology, inclusive of application of sociological concepts and
perspectives concerning human groups.
- Human Development: The developmental process of
human life covering the life span (birth through death.) Courses that
include only infancy or through school age will not suffice.
- Cultural Anthropology: The study of culture as it relates
to human strategies of adaptation. Emphasis on understanding cultural
differences and how cultures change in the modern world.
