INTERNATIONAL
APPLICANT INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest
in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing programs.
We welcome the rich diversity that international students bring to our
school. As an international student at the OHSU School of Nursing you
must meet certain requirements in addition to the specific program requirements
to be considered for admission.
The requirements are as follows:
Note: Applications will not be processed until the application fee has
been submitted.
Bachelor's
Degree Program (Standard B.S. OCNE or ABS)
- You must fulfill the general requirements for your specific undergraduate program of interest
as described in the undergraduate program brochure or on the Bachelor of Science
Degree Programs web pages.
- You must have a passing score on the
Test of English as
a Foreign Language (TOEFL) of 560 for the paper version, 220 for the computer version, or 83 for the internet version. You must also have a score
of 4.5 on the Test of Written English (TWE), and a score of 55 on
the Test of Spoken English (TSE), which are two components of the TOEFL.
OHSU School of Nursing requires all three test scores. Exceptions to this requirement must be approved by the appropriate SON faculty Admission & Progression Committee.
- If you have college level foreign transcripts, you must have a course-by-course evaluation
of your foreign transcripts by a transcript
and credential evaluation service.
Bachelor of Science
Degree Program for RNs (RNBS)
- You must fulfill the general requirements
as described in the RNBS Brochure or on the RNBS
requirements web page.
- You must have a full Oregon nursing
license. This requires that you have passed the State Board of Nursing
NCLEX exam. OHSU
School of Nursing recommends that international students prepare for
the NCLEX by taking the CGFNS
(Commission of Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) exam in your
home country.
- If you have college level foreign transcripts, you must have a course-by-course evaluation
of your foreign transcripts by a transcript
and credential evaluation service.
- If your initial credentials were earned outside of the US, you must have your credentials evaluated
by a transcript
and credential evaluation service.
- You must have a passing score on the Test of English as

and Doctoral Degree Programs (MS, MN, MPH, PhD, DNP)

You must fulfill the general requirements as described for the master's

Full
Oregon Nursing License
To obtain a full Oregon nursing
license you must take the Oregon Registered Nurse Licensing Examination
(NCLEX). Before you will be allowed to take the NCLEX, you must fulfill
ONE of the following requirements:
- Have a passing score on both sections of
the Commission of Graduates of Foreign
Nursing Schools (CGFNS) qualifying examination.
- Have a score of 560 or better on the paper-based
Written Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
AND a Test of Written English (TWE).
- Have a computer-based TOEFL
score of 220 and the Test of Spoken English (TSE),
and a transcript evaluation.
- Have obtained your nursing education in
English using English textbooks.
- Have practiced nursing in English for a total of at least 960 hours in the
past two years.
Limited
Oregon Nursing License
To obtain a limited Oregon
Nursing license you must fulfill ONE of the following requirements:
- Have a passing score on both sections
of the Commission of Graduates of
Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) qualifying examination.
- Have a score of 540 or better on the paper-based
Written Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
AND a Test of Written English (TWE).
- Have a computer-based TOEFL
score of 207 and the Test of Spoken English (TSE),
and a transcript evaluation.

The TOEFL exam scores will
only be used to evaluate your proficiency in the English language and
the School of Nursing in terms of advising and supporting you in your studies. You may obtain information about taking the TOEFL,
