Thank
you for your interest in applying to the OHSU School of Nursing! We are
excited that you are thinking about starting your application process
and have some helpful information about your next steps listed below.
The Application:
The OHSU School of Nursing uses an online application process; no paper
applications are available. The online application is a simple and user-friendly
tool for students. Each academic program has a specific application for
you to use. Each program has specific application deadlines and the online
application will become available to you about three months prior to the
application deadline. Please refer to the application
deadline page for more information.
Starting your
online application:
To start your
online application, go to the online
application start page on the web site, select “First
Time User Account Information”, and create a log in ID and Password
that you will need to remember. Be sure to select the correct application
type from the pull down menu, and then begin filling out your biographic
information, work and academic history in the online application. You
will be able to log in and out of the application as many times as you
wish up until the posted application deadline.
The Application
Essay(s):
The essay question(s) or proctored essay instructions (B.S. OCNE applicants
only) for the program that you are applying to are included as part of
the online application process. Once you create your application account,
you will be able to view the essay question(s)/instructions and respond
accordingly. For non-proctored essays:
The online application will automatically log you out after a 15 minute
period of inactivity. It won’t recognize that you
are working on your online application. To help you with this process,
we encourage you to write and proof read your essay(s) in a Word document.
Once you have finalized your essay, cut and paste your material from the
Word document into the allotted essay response window.
The Application
Fee:
All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable
$120 application fee online in order for their application to be processed.
Submitting
your online application:
When you have completed all sections of the online application (as indicated
by the red check mark by each section) you are ready to submit your online
application. Note: You must be at a computer
with a functioning printer at the time of submitting your application.
When you submit your online application, you will be taken to
a “signature page” screen. The signature page has important
information about your application and must be printed at that time and
included in your packet of supplemental materials. Once
you submit your online application, you can no longer access the application.
You will not be able to “save” the signature page for printing
later and you will not be able to “log in” again to retrieve
it. Applicants who miss this critical step will have their application
process significantly delayed.
Submitting
your Supplemental Materials & Application Package:
Along with your online application, you are required to submit supplemental
materials for your file. These materials are submitted to us via postal
mail and include the online application signature page, official
transcripts from all institutions ever attended (except PMCO applicants),
test scores (if required), letters of recommendation (if required), resume
or vitae (if required), and sample of scholarly writing (if required).
To help us process your application quickly and efficiently, we ask that
you review the required supplemental application materials for the program
that you are applying to, gather those materials together, and then submit
all of the materials to the OHSU School of Nursing in one single application
packet to the following address:
OHSU School of Nursing
Office of Admissions SN-ADM
3455 SW US Veterans Hospital Road
Portland, OR 97239-2941
Mailing your
Application:
The Office of Admissions prefers to receive your application packet via
postal mail sent to the address listed above. Applications need to be
postmarked by the posted application deadline in order
to be considered for admission.
Dropping off
your Application Packet:
We understand that submitting your application can be nerve-wracking.
We prefer applicants to submit their application packet to us via postal
mail to the address listed above. It does not benefit the student in any
way to hand the packet in at the School of Nursing. All applications are
reviewed after the posted application deadline for that program.
- As long as your
application is postmarked by the posted application deadline, the date
it arrives does not have any bearing on the admissions decision.
- Applications received
that are postmarked after the posted application deadline may not be
considered for admission.
- The Office of Admissions
is open between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday. The
building is closed to the public on weekends and all major holidays.
Re-Applying
for Admission:
As a top ranked School of Nursing, we receive many more applications from
qualified applicants every year than we are able to admit. Students who
applied in previous years and who are waitlisted or denied admission will
need to re-apply using the same process as a new applicant. Students who
were waitlisted from a previous year are not given preference over the
rest of the applicant pool. The Office of Admissions will keep the files
of all applicants for one year. If you choose to re-apply, we will pull
your transcripts and other supplemental material to add to your new application
upon request. If you have any new information, you will need to submit
those materials to the Office of Admissions in your application packet
by the posted application deadline.
A Message
from the Office of Admissions:
We hope this helps you with your application process. We know that you
may have other questions as your complete your application process. Please
make sure to review the materials on the website for more information
and contact our Admissions Counselors at the Office of Admissions at 503-494-7725
or proginfo@ohsu.edu with further
questions.
OHSU is an equal
opportunity, affirmative action institution.
