Morning Report
A resident from the inpatient or critical care services presents a recently admitted patient. The chief resident directs discussion among housestaff and faculty to construct a detailed differential diagnosis and management plan. Radiographic and audiovisual materials often supplement discussion to maximize learning. Case information is entered into an electronic template that can be emailed, along with pertinent articles and images, to all residents.

Pediatric Noon Conference
The Pediatric Noon Conference, during the first 10 weeks of each residency year, provides a comprehensive review of pediatric emergencies and basic pediatric topics. After the summer core series, the topics cover pediatric subspecialties, surgical problems, and pain management. Second and third year residents each give one noon lecture annually. To add fun, the chief resident hosts a Jeopardy game several times each year. There are standing monthly meetings in this time slot: resident meetings, pediatric journal club, and primary care, child abuse, and ethics conferences.

Pediatric Grand Rounds
Pediatric faculty, community pediatricians, residents, and students attend this weekly session held September to June. Various pediatric topics, including research advances and challenging clinical cases, are presented. During the summer, Grand Rounds is replaced by our advocacy lecture series.

Advocacy Lecture Series
The Advocacy Lecture Series is part of Project REACH (Resident Experience in Advocating for Children's Health) at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Presentations are given by community physicians, faculty, child health organizations, public health officials, and policy makers about how we can better advocate for children in our practice, community and more. Each year, a Child Advocacy Night, highlights residents and others in our community who advocate for the well being of children.

Pediatric Morbidity & Mortality Conference
This monthly conference, presented by a third year resident, reviews pediatric patients with unexpected outcomes, complications, or systems issues.

Pediatric-Emergency Medicine Case Conference
A monthly conference is held jointly with the Department of Emergency Medicine to discuss pediatric patients whose initial presentation is to the Emergency Department. Residents and faculty from both departments attend this conference. Patients are presented by the pediatric and emergency medicine residents. The case format allows for discussion of the differential diagnosis and treatment plan, facilitating communication between the two departments.

Annual Resident Retreat
In early September all of our residents attend a weekend retreat at a get-away resort in Oregon . Families and significant others are included. Retreat agendas focus on education, self-awareness, well-being, and residency program improvement. Most importantly, it is a time for residents to get to know each other, relax a little, and have fun
