Neurology

Pediatric Neurology provides comprehensive care for children with neurologic problems and disabilities. We offer a full spectrum of coordinated services and maintain close relationships with behavioral pediatrics, child psychiatry, neurological surgery, and neuroradiology.

Clinical care is closely coordinated with the referring physician. The division offers referring physicians and health care providers an expanded array of consulting, diagnostic, and treatment services for children with neurological problems. Clinical activities focus on epilepsy, headaches, cerebral palsy, genetic/metabolic disorders, neuromuscular disorders, and other developmental disabilities. The division offers state-of-the-art technology for video-EEG telemetry and functional neuroimaging, including MR spectroscopy.

The division believes that high-quality clinical care is closely linked to education for students, residents, and practicing physicians. The faculty participates in teaching and outreach education locally and nationally.

Research
Current clinical research activities include anti-epileptic drug treatment trials, a drug treatment trial for spinal muscular atrophy, and an evaluation of the role of Botulinum toxin (Botox) for the treatment of cerebral palsy. Children are referred into the research program by their primary care provider.
