Nephrology

Kidney services staff provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and consultation services for pediatricians and family practitioners who see children with conditions related to renal failure, hypertension, recurrent urinary tract infections, hematuria, proteinuria, nephrotic syndrome, hemolytic uremic syndrome, and kidney diseases. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services are available for children with acute or chronic renal failure.

Pediatric nephrologists lead a multidisciplinary team that includes Oregon's only pediatric renal nutritionist, whose expertise is important for the care of children with kidney disease or chronic renal insufficiency, as well as pediatric dialysis and transplant patients.

General nephrology and pediatric dialysis nurses help manage the needs of children with kidney disorders and those receiving chronic dialysis. OHSU transplant coordinators offer pre- and post-transplant nursing support. Children are referred into the program by their primary care provider.
