Pediatric gastroenterology offers consultation, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment for infants and children with gastrointestinal problems, such as chronic diarrhea, chronic abdominal pain, vomiting, encopresis, and pediatric liver disease, including pre- and post-transplant evaluation.
Available procedures include esophagogastroduodenoscopy, colonoscopy, esophageal pH studies, breath hydrogen testing for lactose intolerance or bacterial overgrowth, and liver biopsy. Infants and toddlers with failure to thrive are seen in the Feeding Clinic, a multispecialty clinic that includes nutrition, speech therapy, social work, and child psychiatry services.
Children are referred into the program by their primary care physicians.
