Applying to the Program
After the Graduate Admissions Office has received your complete application packet it will be forwarded to the program for review. The program notifies applicants of admission decisions in writing. Admission decisions are not given over the telephone.
Application Deadlines
- December 14, 2007 for all Ph.D. programs including the Program in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences, the Neuroscience Graduate Program, Biomedical Informatics, and Behavioral Neuroscience Program
- March 3, 2008 for the Master of Public Health program
- March 14, 2008 for the Biomedical Informatics Masters degree programs
The application will be available beginning September 1, 2007. Applications are accepted for Fall admission only.
The program reserves the right to review applications received after the deadline if space is available in the specialty area. Priority is given to applications that are complete by the application deadline. Please check with your program of interest for additional information.
Application Instructions
- Complete the application form including a personal statement following the criteria indicated on the program application form.
- All letters of recommendation should be submitted online. On page 2 of the online application you will be asked to provide name and contact information for a minimum of three references. Request recommendations from persons who have knowledge of your background and qualifications. E-mails to References WILL NOT be sent until the application is SUBMITTED by the applicant.
- You are required to submit an official transcript from each school you have attended after high school. This is a requirement of the university. A transcript showing transfer credits is official only for credits taken at that institution. It is not an official transcript for the transferred credits. Request that the transcripts be mailed from the institution attended to SOM Graduate Admissions. Transcripts may be sent with the application. In this case, request that transcripts be mailed to you and forward them in their sealed envelopes with your application. For our purposes, transcripts are official only if the seal is not broken.
- An official copy of your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. The scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to SOM Graduate Admissions and upon arrival will be matched with your application. The institution code for OHSU School of Medicine is 4865. The School of Medicine Graduate Admissions Office does not use a department or major field code.
- The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of students for whom English is not their native language. An official report of the scores must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to the Graduate Admissions Office and upon arrival will be matched with your application. The institution code for OHSU School of Medicine is 4865. The School of Medicine Graduate Admissions Office does not use a department or major field code.
- PMCB applicants only: e-mail electronic copies of any scientific papers or journal articles you have authored or co-authored to somgrad@ohsu.edu
- Do not send additional materials such as papers, journal articles, theses or certificates unless requested by the program you are applying to.
- Applications must be accompanied with a $50 non-refundable application fee made payable to Oregon Health & Science University.
