Shawn Blanchard, MD
Assistant Professor, Associate Director of Predoctoral Education

[Shawn H. Blanchard, MD]
Shawn received his M.D. degree from OHSU in 1992. His Family Practice residency was completed at San Bernadino County Medical Center in southern California. Dr. Blanchard enjoys the procedural and clinical diversity offered in family medicine and has particular interests in adolescent and community medicine. He spends his leisure time with his family and participates in a variety of outdoor activities such as mountain biking and snow boarding in particular. Dr. Blanchard is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Physicians and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the Oregon Academy of Family Physicians.

Lynn Caton, PA

Lynn E. Caton, PA-C, joined the OHSU Faculty in October 2000 as professional development coordinator and associate clinical coordinator. Lynn graduated in the first class of the University of Nebraska PA Program in 1975. He practiced family medicine in rural Frontier county Nebraska for five years. Other than a year off as a Health Policy Fellow for the US Congress he has practiced family medicine for twenty-five years. The last thirteen years in Vancouver, Washington. He continues to practice part-time in family medicine in Vancouver. In addition to past health policy experience he has served the profession as an AAPA chapter president and delegate. He served as AAPA Professional Practice Council Chair, and as President of the Academy and continues to be involved as the Academy Liaison to the American Academy of Family Physicians. Lynn has represented the profession with testimony to Congress, the Physician Payment Review Commission and the Bureau of Health Professions.

Lisa Dodson, MD

Lisa Dodson, M.D. Lisa received her medical degree from SUNY at Stony Brook, New York. She completed her residency at OHSU in Family Medicine and practiced in John Day, Oregon for seven years before returning to OHSU and joining the Richmond Family Health Center. In 2003, Lisa moved her practice to OHSU Family Medicine at Marquam Hill. Dr. Dodson is an Assistant Professor and serves as the Department's Director of the Rural Health Programs, and Director of the Primary Care Clerkship. She is married with two sons and enjoys gardening, hiking, reading and spending time outdoors with her family.

Dierdre Donovan, MD

[Dierdre Donovan, MD]
Dr. Donovan graduated from Georgetown University Medical School in 2001 and the OHSU Family Medicine Residency in 2005. She also completed the Associate Fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona. She incorporates acupuncture, herbs, nutrition and mind-body medicine into her care as a family physician. She listens to her patients and enjoys having continuity relationships over time. She also has a special interest in Maternal & Child health care.

Dr. Donovan enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, practicing yoga and cycling.

M. Patrice Eiff, MD
Professor, Interim Residency Director

Dr. Eiff joined the department in 1990 and is currently a professor and director of faculty development. She is also interim director of residency training effective June 1, 2006. She received her M.D. degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1983 and completed her family medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center in 1986. Following residency, Dr. Eiff completed a one-year faculty development fellowship at Duke. She is the Leadership Director for the OHSU National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health (CoE) and has served as the Chair of the Women in Academic Medicine Committee for the past 5 years. In 2005 she was appointed as Director of the TALENT Program, which is designed to improve the advancement and retention of women faculty in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Eiff has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine and is the medical director of the OHSU Sports Medicine Clinic. She currently serves as a team physician for Portland State University. In addition to sports medicine, her interests include fracture care and curriculum design. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice, and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Her outside interests include tennis, boogie boarding and spending time at the Oregon Coast.

Scott Fields, MD
Professor, Vice Chair

Dr. Fields received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1986. He completed his family medicine residency at OHSU in 1989. After completing a fellowship, he joined the faculty of the Department of Family Medicine, focusing his time in the education of students and residents. As a family physician, Dr Fields has a special interest in maternity care and adolescent health. He serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine overseeing the clinical services to patients. In addition to being an avid tennis player, Dr. Fields and his wife Vicki enjoy fishing, gardening, landscaping, and snorkeling.

Margaret "Meg" Hayes, MD
Assistant Professor

Dr. Hayes received her medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in 1994. She did her residency at OHSU and also served as Chief Resident.

She is an Assistant Professor in OHSU Family Medicine. Her practice includes the full spectrum of family medicine including obstetrics. Dr. Hayes is actively involved in research in areas of integrative medicine, motivating change for improved health outcomes and the treatment of substance abuse.

Her professional interests include integration of complementary and alternative practices including acupuncture into her practice. Dr. Hayes is also involved in international medical mission work in Azerbaijan.

She enjoys roller-blading, kayaking, her dogs and making jewelry.

Valerie King, MD, MPH
Associate Professor

[Valerie King, MD, MPH]
Valerie King, MD, MPH is a 1991 honors graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and the UNC Family Practice (1994) and Preventive Medicine Residency Programs (2000). She received her MPH from the UNC Department of Epidemiology in 1997. She has been a Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Clinical Scholar, and a RWJ Generalist Faculty Scholar.

Dr. King joined OHSU Family Medicine in January 2004. Her clinical expertise is in the care of women and children, including family-centered maternity care. Her research interests include evidence-based healthcare, maternal and child health, women’s health, and healthcare decision-making. She is the Associate Director of the John M. Eisenberg Clinical Decisions and Communications Science Center at OHSU, funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Dr. King was born and raised in Idaho and her personal interests include food, tennis, books and films and her greyhounds Chip and Clive.

Wendy Kohatsu, MD
Assistant Professor

[Wendy Kohatsu, MD]
Wendy Kohatsu, M.D. received her medical degree from UCLA, and completed her residency in family and community medicine at UCSF/San Francisco General Hospital. She graduated as one of the inaugural fellows in the Program in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil in 1999.

Wendy joined OHSU Family Medicine on November 15, 2003. She is a clinician-teacher who sees patients at OHSU Family Medicine at Marquam Hill.

Prior to coming to Oregon, she served on the faculty at East Tennessee State University, working with a rural, underserved community. She currently serves as Co-Director for the new Integrative Family Medicine fellowship at OHSU.

Her interests are the integration of primary care with nutrition, lifestyle enhancement, mind-body therapies, and complementary and alternative therapies such as botanical and manual medicine. She is the editor and author of the book Complementary and Alternative Medicine Secrets. Dr. Kohatsu’s dream is to create a TEACHING KITCHEN to cook with, educate, and inspire people to not only eat healthier, but to use food as medicine, and savor life.

David Labby, MD

Dr. Labby received his medical degree in 1990 from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, and received his Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1990. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine from OHSU, and has been board certified in Internal Medicine since 1993.

He is assistant professor for OHSU Family Medicine.

Dr. Labby enjoys spending time with his family, running, skiing and kayaking.

Linda Lallande, FNP

[Linda Lallande, FNP]
Ms. Lallande earned her bachelor`s degree in health education from the University of Oregon in 1980 and her master`s degree in family nursing from OHSU in 1990. She worked as a FNP at various clinics since 1991, and she has been involved in the health field since 1979. She worked as a FNP and Clinical Instructor with OHSU Family Medicine at Scappoose since 1994 and is now seeing patients at OHSU Family Medicine at Marquam Hill.

A nationally certified family nurse practitioner, she enjoys providing holistic health care for the entire family with an emphasis in health maintenance and prevention of illness.

Ms. Lallande enjoys boogie boarding, theater, and traveling.

Jen Lochner, MD
Assistant Professor, Medical Director, Associate Residency Director

[Jen Lochner, MD]
Dr. Lochner, a Wisconsin native, completed her medical degree at the University of Wisconsin before coming to OHSU to train with the Department of Family Medicine as a resident. She loved her experiences here so much that upon graduating from residency in 2002, she stayed on as chief resident and soon after joined the full time faculty.

As a family physician, Dr. Lochner enjoys working with both adults and children and has a special interest in maternity care. She believes that listening to patients is essential in helping them to meet their health care needs.

In her spare time, Dr. Lochner enjoys reading and recently took up knitting. She and her husband, Steve, also enjoy hiking and gardening.

John Saultz, MD
Professor, Chairman

[John Saultz, MD]
John Saultz, professor and chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at OHSU, received his M.D. from Ohio State University. He completed his residency at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, and a faculty development fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In addition to Department Chair, he is also currently Assistant Dean of the School of Medicine, and Director of the Oregon statewide Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program.

Dr. Saultz is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, and a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. He was the 1996-97 President of Oregon Academy of Family Physicians and 1993-94 President of the Association of Family Practice Residency Directors. Dr. Saultz served on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education from 1992-98.

He is the author of the Textbook of Family Medicine: Defining and Examining the Discipline. His areas of special interest are family systems medicine and communication in the doctor-patient relationship.

His personal interests center on his wife and three children as well as basketball, baseball, and fly fishing.

Ann Sinclair, MSW, LCSW

Assistant Professor

Ann received her M.S. in cognitive psychology from Portland State University in 1987 and her Masters in Social Work (MSW) in 1993. Her thesis work was on physician decision making. Ann is an Assistant Professor, and the Co-Director of the Department's Behavioral Science program. Her areas of special interest include the doctor-patient relationship, and ethical and social issues in medicine. She is a licensed therapist, and is active in the department's Mind/Body Wellness work.

Robert B. Taylor, MD
Professor Emeritus

[Robert B. Taylor, MD]
Bob received his M.D. degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He then spent three years with the U.S. Public Health Service in Norfolk, Virginia. For the next 14 years he had a successful private practice in New York. In 1978 Bob joined the faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine, at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina. He was chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at OHSU from 1984 to 1998. Bob is a Professor, and the author and editor of 12 medical textbooks including Family Medicine: Principles and Practice (6th Edition).

Willaim L. Toffler, MD
Professor, Director of Predoctoral Education

[Willaim L. Toffler, MD]
Bill received his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1976. He completed his residency in family medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1979. He served on the faculty at that facility before joining a private practice in Sweet Home, Oregon. While in private practice Dr. Toffler served OHSU as part-time faculty. In 1985 Bill assumed a full-time faculty position as director of family practice patient care services. He became Director of Predoctoral Education in 1988. Bill is a Professor, who sees his patients at the Emma Jones Hall Family Health Center. He has been involved in sport and aviation medicine and is a medical activist with a strong interest in defending the ethic that all human life is inherently valuable.
