Chief Resident
Teresa Everson, MD
Teresa is a native of Orange, California (the city and the county), but lived in an assortment of southern Californian cities before settling down in the popcorn capital of the United States- the booming metropolis of Marion, Ohio- in middle school. She took full advantage of her time in rural Ohio by participating (surprisingly seriously) in marching band, show choir, and all things musical, and fully developed her new identity as a Buckeye by attending college at The Ohio State University. There she studied the very logical combination of Spanish and Molecular Genetics, and filled her free time with social dance and ice hockey classes, as well as with increasing involvement in the American Medical Student Association. It was during college that Teresa developed a love for different cultures, which was culminated through study abroad trips to both Guanajuato, Mexico and Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. She now feels a semi-constant tug towards travel.
Upon graduation in June of 1999 Teresa took a job with the American Red Cross, traveling the state to surgically procure tissues from organ and tissue donors. And while as a premedical student she loved the anatomy and surgical technique she learned, she was more impressed by the first-hand experience she gained as a member of the working uninsured. She would soon find an outlet for her newfound interest in social justice when she attended her first AMSA national convention and won her first national leadership position in 2000.
For the past five years Teresa has been active in AMSA’s national leadership, and has enjoyed the endless opportunity for activism and organization it has provided. She struggles to picture life without involvement in AMSA, and looks forward to finding new outlets for her passion in residency and beyond.
Teresa is very excited about moving to the Pacific Northwest after 17 years away from the West Coast, and can’t wait to take full advantage of the surrounding nature and outdoor sporting opportunities it brings. While indoors, she likes to read modern fiction, bake and cook, do all kinds of crafts, watch completely non-educational television and movies, and play with her new cat Taggart.
