James F. Calvert, Jr., M.D.
Jim received a Bachelors Degree from Harvard College and, after graduation, entered the Army where he spent two years in Vietnam. He then went on to George Washington University School of Medicine to receive his M.D. in 1976. He continued with his residency at St. Mary's Hospital in the Family Practice Department at the University of Wisconsin.From 1979 to 1985, he was the Clinical Director at Fort Hall Public Health Service Indian Health Center in Fort Hall, Idaho. He held the position of Medical Officer at the National Center for Health Services Research and Health Care Technology Assessment in Rockville, Maryland, for one year before becoming assistant professor and director of the Pre-doctoral program in family medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Dr. Calvert has years of teaching experience including organizing and directing classes on ambulatory care, community and family medicine, medical data and reasoning, and medical writing and editing. Many of his writings have been published and he has taken part in multiple presentations. Dr. Calvert has written and been awarded various grants including a proposal for the Establishment of Departments of Family Medicine, which was approved and funded in 1989.
He is an Associate Professor, and was the Residency Director of the Cascades East Residency Program in Klamath Falls, Oregon from 1992 - April, 2001. Dr. Calvert is still a member of the faculty and is doing clinical research.
Dr. Calvert's professional interest focuses on maternal child health and rural healthcare.
